In the loop

Exploring the concept of one-bar loops: synths, drums, and basslines, modulated, stretched, and filtered over the course of a track. The effect is hypnotic, time-warping and captivating.

The tracks sit in a true Command D and Zara style - dub-infused, tripped-out techno.

1. Picture - Keeeeeee

"The prolific Danish house and techno producer Central delivers 6 finessed dub techno tracks under his new alias 'Picture'. Collaborating with Zara inspires me to dive into more driving, looped techno grooves but I still like to incorporate my love for hazy and delicate atmospheres that offer respite from heavy kick drums. Keeeeeee brings exactly this and may allow for a moment of hypnotic suspension at memòri this year if the dancefloor calls for it."

2. Daniel[i] - Shifting Clouds

"The title track of this EP by Daniel[i] has a push and pull that drew me in. I remember being at a festival with a really good sound system one time, feeling like the separation between the elements was so clear that you could almost visualise the layers moving through the air. I feel this track is arranged in a kind of minimal but punchy style that really lends a hand in achieving that."

3. Luke Hess - Believe & Receive (Shedsdeepanddubbydub Remix)

"Likewise, collorborating with charley pulls me out of my synth spirals and into a more groovy, tech-house and dub-techno land. This track is an example of that, an absolute bass heavy melter, with a low slung groove. Usually when I first mix this into a set, people initially freeze a bit but by the end of the 9 minutes, enveloped in pads, people are melting."

4. Planetary Assault Systems - Spell A

"One of my all-time favourite techno tracks. The repetitive use of the feminine vocal, combined with the build from the rattling hi-hats and deeper vocal layers, feels perfectly energetic and euphoric. I always use this track as a slide into more energetic sections and take a break from mixing during it, while the unfurling elements do the talking."

5. Azu Tiwaline- Mei Long

"A sub-exploding, powerful and percussive beauty from Azu. This album is very special and each track has a different place, but Mei Long is excellent in a bass-heavy, trippy and energetic set. A unique beauty."
