5 tracks that have influenced Trickpony
1. B(if)tek - Faded Blue (selected by Katie)
"An utterly gorgeous low slung masterpiece from the ever iconic B(if)tek, dreamy soundscapes with captivating speech that leaves a storyboard printed in your head. This one is a special track that reminds me of my partner and longing shared during a quarantine; a kind of tender romance that I feel we channel into TP. Emulating a love letter; through texture, words and swirling synth atmospherics. Timeless."
2. The Stardeeds - Where Time Is Not (There is Enough for Everyone) (selected by Maria)
"The whole Starseeds catalogue stays on eternal rotation. Where Time Is Not (There Is Enough for Everyone) feels like an airy ethereal dream or distant memory of a parallel life.. Like floating through a dream on a cloud at sunset- I want to swim in it."
3. Atmo Brtschitsch - Black Seed (selected by Mike)
"Slightly sinister and deceptively ‘downtempo’ from Paul Brtschitsch and Amir Abadi. What’s not to love! It’s something I've been playing a lot in sets recently. I love how it incorporates sonics from the dub techno world of the 90s using a trip-hop framework. There’s this kind of menacing groovy darkness to it, something we try to bring forward into our own material."
4. Dub Squad - Await (selected by Katie)
"Delicate dubbed out 90s bliss; the backbone of where a lot of our musical DNA lies. Chords drip over percussive soundscapes and fill out space in such a restrained beautiful way. A ~5min anticipation builds to a stripped sexy beat; all you need with the bass. The rest of the elements float and fly above, echoed vocal chops and the softest stabs.. Building to a stunning soundscape that develops over the 12 minutes."
5. Scorn - Light Trap (selected by Mike)
"There’s a haunting beauty to Scorn. I love how it feels deeply connected to the wider wave of UK-based sonic movements at the time, sharing a common thread with artists like Coil, Autechre, Scanner, and Meat Beat Manifesto. The lyrics capture a dark, lush, gothic atmosphere that unfolds over six minutes, alongside tormented brass and guitar textures. Hearing tracks like this made me realise that even with my own very limited guitar skills, there’s still something I could experiment with on a textural level and bring into our own productions."
