Slowfoam is the all-encompassing sound project of Berlin-based Madelyn Byrd, operating in the porous zones where ambient music loosens its borders and becomes something more tactile, more unsettled. Their work drifts between hand-shaped drones, electro-acoustic residue, treated voice and guitar, assembling slow-moving forms that feel suspended between memory, ecology and quiet speculation. Rather than focusing on genres, Slowfoam builds environments: intimate yet diffuse spaces where glitched-out leftfield ambient, trip-hop shadows and folk-adjacent poetry blur into one another.

Across releases for Somewhere Press, Mappa, Knekelhuis or their own recently-founded Gravity Pleasure, Slowfoam has developed a distinct, ethereal patience, attentive to texture and bodily resonance as much as structure. There’s a careful balance at play - between the organic and the processed, the political and the mythic - without tipping into didacticism. Live or djing, Slowfoam’s sets tend toward listening states rather than statements, unfolding gently but deliberately, and leaving room for ambiguity, vulnerability and quiet transformation.
